Basant Farmer Producer Company (FPC)

EThe BASANT FPO was set up to address the gap of small
and poor farmers to access markets, credit, information
about new technology, trainings and benefits from the
government. The FPO is a collectivisation of such small
and poor farmers to give them the collective strength
to address their issues and challenges within the agri business.

It aims to fulfil the following:
To enhance small and poor women farmers’ incomes
To facilitate various inputs on good agricultural
practices for enhanced production and productivity
at the farm level for small and marginalised farmers
To sustainably build the capacity of FPOs so as to
help them evolve as strong rural self – governance
platforms for farmers even while giving them
increased bargaining strength.
To ensure better access to quality inputs and services
as well as markets to FPOs for intensive agriculture
and value-added processing.

Forming

Members made aware about FPC purpose
Formation and FPC registration
Budget approval
Capacity building plan - technical and institutional Governing board members develop understanding of FPC
Members develop understanding about FPC and shares
Concept of Business plan is shared

Storming

Governance/members roles are defined
Members argue about business plans and Inter-member issues crop up and norms of functuoning are framed
Surplus sharing plans evolve
Democratic processes of election of board member evolves as per shareholding

Norming

Business Plan is approved and
accepted by members
Governanace and Management appear separate
Board meetings are regularly held.
Key staff members are hired
FPC principal product begins gets traction
FPC starts the operation to trade inputs and aggregate commodities and market its product
