Basant Farmer Producer Company (FPC)

“BASANT” Farmers Producers Organisation (FPO), is a collective of women entrepreneurs from three districts – Jhansi, Mahoba and Lalitpur- of Bundelkhand region, Uttar Pradesh. The BASANT FPO was formed in February 2022
with an aim to promote a culture of entrepreneurship among the

most small and poor farmers’ communities, especially among women and youth.
Through the Basant FPO, an enabling, sustainable and favorable ecosystem

is created for acceleration and scaling of entrepreneurship models,

led by women and youth. This is the only FPO in Uttar Pradesh which has
an all women Board of Directors. The FPO’s motto is “Empowering women towards
Sustainable Livelihood”.

It is a young company with 2200 members as shareholders of which 83% women farmers and 48% youth and a corpus of EURO 12,400
(INR 11 lacs.)

It has recently developed a business plan for the next 3-5 years for its products – A) Seeds/ grains Wheat, mustard, groundnut, urad pulse) and B) Spices (processed - Chili powder, Coriander powder, turmeric powder, gram powder, wheat
porridge (Daliya), wheat flour).

It has received government certification for its
“wheat seed of K17 variety”.

The FPO’s motto is

“Empowering women towards Sustainable Livelihood”.

Objectives of Basant FPO

Missions

The BASANT FPO was set up to fill the gap of small and poor farmers to access markets, credit, information about new technology, trainings and benefits accrued to small and poor farmers. The FPO is a collectivisation of such small and landless farmers in order to give them the collective strength to address their issues

To enhance marginal women farmers’ incomes
To facilitate various inputs on good agricultural practices for enhanced productionand productivity at the farm level for small and marginalised farmers.
To sustainably build the capacity of FPOs so as to help them evolve as strong rural self– governance platforms for farmers even while giving them increased bargaining strength.
To ensure better access to quality inputs and services as well as markets to FPOs for intensive agriculture and value-added processing.
